Dr. Frey holds a dual Doctorate in Cognitive Science and Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences and has directed the Speech-Language Pathology department at Craig Hospital in Englewood, CO since 2012. She has worked clinically in inpatient neurologic rehabilitation since 1995 and also researched, published, and presented on behavioral, cognitive, and communication impairment due to stroke, traumatic brain injury, and viral illness. In 2004, she became an Instructor in the Neurobehavioral Disorders Program in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. In this program, she served as Director of the Cognitive-Communication Disorders Program and a constraint induced aphasia therapy clinic. Here she was also the study coordinator for numerous studies including a CDC funded investigation of the neurobehavioral features of West Nile virus, characterization of post-traumatic amnesia and post-traumatic encephalopathy, and a multi-site NIH funded double-blind, placebo controlled pharmacologic and cognitive rehabilitation trial for persons with traumatic brain injury. In 2011 she received the University of Colorado, Speech-Language & Hearing Sciences Outstanding Doctoral Researcher Award. That year she was also the recipient of the William H. Dingwall Foundation National Neurolinguistics Fellowship. She actively serves on the Stroke – ISIG Aphasia and Other Communication Disorders Task Force for the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Special Interest group on Neurophysiology and Neurogenic Speech and Language Disorders. Additional responsibilities at Craig Hospital include the role of Steering and Executive Committee Member and Site Rehabilitation Representative for the NINDS supported multi-site CARE4TBI study.
