Dr. Kirstine Carter’s life aspiration is to use her knowledge of brain-behavior relationships to help others live a life they consider meaningful. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology and completed her doctoral internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. She is certified through the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN) and an active member of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN).
Dr. Carter is the staff neuropsychologist for the Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program (PTRP) and the Post-Deployment Accelerated Comprehensive Evaluation and Rehabilitation (PACER) program at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. She has assessed and treated individuals with traumatic brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, brain tumors, Parkinson’s disease, as well as various brain disorders. Her clinical interest is helping individuals with acquired brain injuries reintegrate into the community after injury. Research interests include examining factors that contribute to returning to work or active duty following brain injury as well as real life applications of neuropsychology evaluation results. During her free time, Dr. Carter strives to live her life to the fullest by playing soccer with her family and on individual soccer teams in the area.
