Karen Søgaard works with a multidisciplinary approach on musculo-skeletal pain combining competences within work physiology, biomechanics and motor control. Currently, her line of research focuses on tailored physical exercise training. This involves both implementation of the training and the physiological effect on muscle pain and capacity. Especially, Karen Søgaard has an expertice in the neuromuscular and metabolic effect of exercise used as prevention and treatment and how this interact with work ability, impairment, function and perception of pain. She works with individual preventive and rehabilitating training programs tested in randomised controlled studies at the workplace (12 studies) as well as in the clinical settings (8 studies).Professor Søgaard is the author of more than 250 peer-reviewed publications and more than 20 chapters in international books and textbooks.
