In 2008 MD, GP, PhD Jens Søndergaard was appointed professor and head of the Research Unit for General Practice at University of Southern Denmark. He is currently also director of the independent Research Institution, The research Unit for General Practice in Odense and the unit in Esbjerg. Furthermore, he is member of a number of steering committees, advisory boards and scientific research boards.
During recent years, Prof. Jens Søndergaard has attracted substantial funding and initiated independent research projects within areas such as pharmacoepdemiology, organization of health care and clinical projects. He acts as regular referee at several international journals, and as co-editor for two scientific journals. Since 2002, he has published more than 600 papers mainly in internationally peer-reviewed journals. He is the principal or co-author on book chapters or conference proceeding and +100 lectures, abstracts or posters presented at international and national meetings.
Prof. Jens Søndergaard has considerable experience in research management. He is also pa part-time general practitioner and also holds a specialist degree in clinical pharmacology. As head of the research units, he has the responsibility for approximately 80 employees.
