Dr. Michael Boninger is the Chief Medical Sustainability Officer for UPMC, helping to lead UPMC’s efforts to decrease the environmental impact of its operations. Dr. Boninger is also a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, with joint appointments in the Departments of Bioengineering, Rehabilitation Science and Technology and the McGowan Institute of Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Boninger received both his mechanical engineering degree and his medical doctorate at The Ohio State University. He has an extensive publication record related to bioengineering, assistive technology, and training researchers. Dr. Boninger holds 4 United States patents and has received numerous honors, including being inducted into the National Academy of Medicine of the National Academy of Science.
