Rachel Hitch has been a speech-language pathologist for over 30 years, specializing in work with the ABI population, both adults and children. Rachel Hitch has worked at the SRALab for 27 years in a variety of roles including SLP researcher, SLP and care coordinator at Day Rehab and SLP in adult outpatient For the past 13 years, she has been a research speech-language pathologist at the Center for Aphasia Research. She has facilitated and coordinated SRALab Aphasia Groups for over 12 years. SRALab Aphasia Groups presently serve approximately 70 participants in 12 different groups. Rachel Hitch facilitates 3 groups/ week, mentoring SLP facilitators and volunteers, developing class schedules, developing plans and materials and doing intakes with new participants. She supports participation in these groups by communicating with new and ongoing participants in SRALab aphasia groups and their families. In her role as a research SLP, Rachel Hitch is involved in a variety of capacities, including recruiting for studies and conducting research about treatment for aphasia. Rachel Hitch is known amongst her peers for her positive connection with many patients, families and other professionals both inside and outside the organization. She has a special interest in adjustment to disability, life participation and how outlook impacts recovery and participation after onset of ABI, concepts that are integral to this study.
