Joseph Peters earned his BS in Kinesiology in 2016, MS in 2017, and PhD in 2022 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under the guidance of Laura Rice, PhD and Ian Rice, PhD. Joseph Peters’ research interests involve investigating strategies to maximize rehabilitation outcomes in mobility device users through the use of assistive technology and physical activity. Guided by principles in biomechanics and exercise physiology, Joseph Peters has developed pressure ulcer prevention strategies in adapted sports and dosing strategies for high intensity interval training in wheelchair users. Additionally, Joseph Peters is the Assistant Coach for the University of Illinois Wheelchair Track Team (2017-Current) and 2021 USA Paralympic National Team Coach. At the 2021 Paralympic Games, Joseph Peters coached athletes from the University of Illinois Wheelchair Track team to 11 Paralympic Medals (5 Gold). Serving as both a coach and sport scientist for the USA Paralympic National Team, Joseph Peters has worked with several start-up companies to bring innovative proof-of-concept ideas to real life application within the fields of wearable technology, instrumented sports equipment, and 3D-printing.
