Sonya Wood-Johnson has worked within the Penn Medicine Health System for the past 21 years. Over the past years, Sonya has served in multiple roles; Registered Respiratory Therapist, Registered nurse in the Trauma/Surgical ICU and Staffing for All Seasons Float Pool. In addition, Sonya serves a clinical instructor for the University Pennsylvania School of Nursing and Adjunct Professor at Eastern University.
Sonya started her education at the Community College of Philadelphia, where she obtained her associate degree in Allied Health, specializing in Respiratory Therapy. She worked at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for 8 years. Sonya transitioned to nursing in 2005, after receiving her bachelor’s degree from LaSalle University. Sonya continued her education in nursing and went on to receive her master’s degree in leadership management from Walden University and Doctor of Nursing from DeSales University.
Sonya has a passion for quality, patient safety, performance improvement, and burnout prevention. She has served in many roles through healthcare. Sonya also enjoys learning, mentoring students and staff, and spending time with her family.
Sonya’s current role is Director of Quality and Performance Improvement at Good Shepherd Penn Partners, she continues to work as a Clinical Coordinator at HUP, clinical instructor, and adjunct professor.
