Sara D. Pullen, PT, DPT, MPH, CHES

Dr. Pullen is a Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. Her clinical practice and research focus on the intersection of HIV, trauma, chronic pain and opioid use in marginalized communities. Dr. Pullen started the first physical therapy services within a multi-service AIDS clinic in Atlanta, GA – the first of its kind in the country - where she holds weekly clinics and conducts clinical research. She has wide experience in the provision of health services to underserved communities both in the U.S. and internationally. She has published several peer-reviewed journals on the topic of HIV, chronic pain and physical therapy and has completed clinical research studies under funding from the National Institutes of Health and Emory Center for AIDS Research exploring non-pharmacological interventions for chronic pain management and opioid mitigation. She is a recipient of the Emory University School of Medicine’s prestigious Hidden Gem Award for her groundbreaking work with HIV and chronic pain in underserved communities. She currently serves as the co-director of the Emory-World Health Organization’s Collaborating Centre. Dr. Pullen combines her expertise in HIV, global and public health, pain management and trauma-informed care in her work as an HIV care provider and activist.
