The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, UK.
I am Dr Panayiota Petrochilos, MBBS, MSc, MRCGP, MRCPsych. I am a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and Clinical lead for the department of Neuropsychiatry at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), in London, United Kingdom.
I’m a Postgraduate in Psychology (BSC, MSc) from UCL, with further training in Medicine (MBBS) at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’ medical school. I've completed specialist training in General Practice (MRCGP) and Adult Psychiatry (MRCPsych) with Liaison accreditation.
I’ve worked as a fulltime NHS Consultant for the past 10 years since 2013. I initially worked as a General Adult Psychiatrist with 3.5 years of experience of clinically leading an 18 bedded acute inpatient mental health ward. This involved assessing and managing a range of schizophreniform conditions, bipolor manic depression presentations, severe personality disorders with self-harming behaviours, drug and alcohol misuse, forensic cases, suicidality, agitation and aggression. I frequently presented to the Mental health act Tribunal board.
Alongside this, I’ve continuously had a General Neuropsychiatry clinic at the NHNN for 10 years. This involves assessing and treating psychiatric illness in the context of neurological disease. For instance, anxiety, depression, psychosis, mania, behavioural disturbance in the context of parkinsons, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, ataxias, tbis', brain tumours etc. I am also involved with pre-neurosurgical assessments and liaison consultation across the hospital. I moved over to work as a fulltime Consultant Neuropsychiatrist at NHNN in 2017 when I launched the outaptient 5 week progamme for Functional Neurological disorders (FND). I've led on the FND part of the service since 2017 and developed different arms to address increasing referral numbers and needs. I have published in this area. The department offers a range of Multi-disciplinary treatment approaches for FND and other conditions. I have been Head of department / Clinical lead for Neuropsychiatry at NHNN since the end of 2019.
