Research Officer
Murdoch Children's Research Institute, United States
Dr Edith Nardu Botchway is an early career researcher in sleep, neuropsychology, and acquired brain injury research. She holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology (University of Ghana), a Research Master’s in Cognitive Neuropsychology (VU University Amsterdam, Netherlands), and a PhD from the University of Melbourne (Australia). She completed her PhD in 2019, where she focused on understanding sleep, fatigue, depression, and quality of life outcomes in young adults who sustained traumatic brain injury (TBI) in childhood. Her PhD provided one of the world’s first evidence on the impact of childhood TBI on sleep.
Dr Botchway has since completed two postdoctoral roles with MCRI and Deakin University and was previously an Honorary Research Fellow with Aston University (Birmingham, UK). Her post-doctoral work is relatively broad, involving studies examining rehabilitation models of care used in children and youth with traumatic injuries and studies examining sleep and neuropsychological outcomes in children with acquired and congenital neurological conditions. She is currently a post-doctoral research fellow with the Brain and Mind group.
Aside her research work, Edith is passionate about community service, youth development through mentorship, and volunteers as an IMNIS Catalyst Ambassador to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders in Australia. She is also a Co-Chair of the Insomnia and Sleep Health Council, Australians Sleep Association.
