Shane Balthazaar is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. His project is focused on cardiovascular rehabilitation using an exercise intervention during the subacute period of spinal cord injury (SCI). Shane completed his PhD under the supervision of Dr. Andrei Krassioukov at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where he looked at the structural and functional changes of the heart following SCI. He received his undergraduate degree in kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada and is a clinically trained echocardiographer, having worked at Vancouver General and St. Paul's Hospitals; two of the largest hospitals in Western Canada.
