Dr. Cochran's teaching expertise focuses in the areas of behavioral science, evidence-based rehabilitation, community-based health promotion and interprofessional education/ team-based care. Specialist board certification in geriatric physical therapy (American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties) allows her to focus this expertise with older adults, many of whom have experienced cerebrovascular accident (stroke) or other chronic conditions. Dr. Cochran's experience as a home care physical therapist involved practice in rural regions of Nebraska, Iowa and Alabama. She developed rehabilitation practices on two rural, medically underserved American Indian reservations and has facilitated interprofessional learning opportunities for students in nursing, medicine, occupational therapy, pharmacy and physical therapy as former Director of Creighton University’s School of Pharmacy and Health Professions’ Office of Interprofessional Scholarship, Service and Education. In addition to several publications and grants, Dr. Cochran has delivered more than 50 national or international presentations in the areas of interprofessional education, exploration of practice errors in rehabilitation, access to rehabilitation for vulnerable groups, prevention of chronic conditions and disability, and the application of qualitative methods in health care research. Dr. Cochran has participated on the Nebraska Stroke Advisory Council Steering Committee and its Rehabilitation and Policy Task Forces to help decrease health disparities in rural regions.
