Attending physician
Wounds and woundcare program, Geneva university hospitals
Geneva 14, Geneve, Switzerland
Born in 1961 in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr. Vuagnat completed his master's degree in medicine in 1989.
After a few years of practice in general surgery, he discovered and trained in rehabilitation medicine: He obtained both his doctorate from the University of Geneva and was Swiss and European board certified in PMnR in 1997.
After various positions, including head of the medical rehabilitation department at the University Hospitals of Geneva, he decided to focus on wound care, where he had developed skills along the years, and is at present attending physician to the wounds and woundhealing program in Geneva university hospitals.
His interest in wound care dates back to the 1990s and he has been contributing to the institutional, transverse, management of these pathologies since 1995.
He holds degrees from Sorbonne University, Paris, France, in wound care and also in neurourology.
Co-founder and first president of the Swiss Association for Wound Care, French-speaking section (SAfW-R), he is currently also elected to the board of directors of the French wound care association (SFFPC) as well as of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA).
Since 2006, he has been deeply involved in modern wound care and rehabilitation in resource-poor settings, believing that through education and minimal means, it is possible to dramatically improve the health and quality of life of many people. To this end, he is co-founder and general secretary of the World Alliance for Wound and Lymphedema Care (WAWLC), as well as co-founder and president of the Association de Soutien aux Centres de Recherche, d'Enseignement et de Soins (ASCRES), both based in Geneva.
For him, interdisciplinarity or interprofessionality are essential axes to cultivate in order to improve the care of patients and their relatives.
