My passion for helping patients with balance disorders as a Doctor of Physical Therapy inspired me to pursue a PhD in Physical therapy at New York University, with a research focus on combining neurobiological index and behavioral measures to further understanding the underlying mechanisms of balance. My overarching goal is to use knowledge and perspectives obtained from multiple fields to create and validate novel, effective approaches for assessment and rehabilitation for individuals with hearing loss, vestibular dysfunction, or other sensory loss conditions. My research incorporates an interdisciplinary approach using methods of neuroimaging in combination with traditional and innovative methods of balance assessment used by physical therapists. This work, in the long term, will inform clinical practice on difficulties with balance maintenance secondary to loss of sensory input and will establish a multifactorial framework that clinicians can use to determine appropriate methods for assessment and rehabilitation.
