Kristen Forand, M.A., CCC-SLP is the Think+Speak AbilityLab manager and Dysphagia Lab SLP at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (SRALab) working in the areas of adult stroke, medically complex, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury in the acute inpatient setting. Her clinical expertise lies in dysphagia, trach and vent progression, and voice disorders leading her to co-lead SRAlab’s Ventilator Liberation Program and Airway Occlusion Protocol. She was also previously the Dysphagia Committee Chair and co-authored a publication entitled “Norm Referenced Video-Fluoroscopic Profiles in Survivors of Traumatic Cervical Spinal Cord Injury. Over the past 10 years, Kristen has been fortunate enough to hold a variety of roles including clinician, researcher, mentor, trainer and committee lead and has obtained advanced competencies in ventilator management, tracheal suctioning, modified barium swallow studies (MBS) and fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). Additionally, Kristen has had a variety of local and national teaching and presenting roles in the areas of dysphagia, spinal cord injury, tracheostomies and ventilator liberation at the university level and through national conferences and symposiums including ASHA, SRAlab and the National Chordoma Foundation.
