Amber Richardson is a staff speech language pathologist at the VA Northern California Health Care system where she directs the Aphasia and Neurogenic Communication Disorders Clinical Program. Her areas of expertise and interest include stroke induced language disorders (aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria), group treatment for aphasia, neurodegenerative communication disorders , AAC/AT, and the role of speech pathologists in palliative care. In her clinical work, Dr. Richardson advocates for the inclusion of a whole health focus to support patients’ quality of life and optimize outcomes.
Dr. Richardson completed her clinical doctorate in Speech Language Pathology from Northwestern University with a focus on outcome measurement for group therapy for persons with aphasia and implementation science. She participates in research investigating the role of motivation in aphasia and she is a clinical specialist collaborating with the Aphasia Recovery Lab at UC Berkeley investigating the neural correlates of apraxia and aphasia.
