Hira Byrne Paulin, CRC is a disability and higher education professional. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and focuses on empowering individuals to become an equal participant in their services and care. She is a disability counselor for students with disabilities. At each campus from her role in disability services, she helps build collaborative interdepartmental pathways to connect service-connected veterans with campus disability services. She is actively involved in the veteran transition space where majority of her time is spent providing mentorship to service-connected veterans, increasing awareness of the functional impacts of disability, translating VA Rating into federal and state programs or accommodations veterans may be eligible for, as well as development of overall self-advocacy skills.
Mrs. Byrne Paulin has been working in higher education since 2014 and has held faculty and staff roles. Her work centers on creating accessible and approachable learning environments for diverse students. She is currently an Advisory Council Member for HigherEdMilitary, a Grant Project Specialist for NSF Resource Center DeafTEC’s Veterans Program, and the Learning Specialist in the Office of Disability Servies at Springfield Technical Community College. Mrs. Byrne Paulin started her educational journey in community college and is currently a PhD Candidate at Northern Illinois University, her research focuses on military moral injury. She is the spouse of an active duty career enlisted Marine.
