Dr. Umesh Venkatesan is Director of the Brain Trauma and Behavior Laboratory at MRRI and Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University. He is a clinically trained neuropsychologist with primary interests in cognitive and functional outcomes after TBI. A portion of his research program centers on aging with moderate-to-severe TBI (msTBI). More recently, he has pursued projects investigating pre- and post-injury biopsychosocial factors contributing to outcome trajectories and the long-term health of individuals with TBI, including adverse childhood experiences, self-efficacy, and disability stigma. An early-stage investigator, Dr. Venkatesan is involved in several local and national collaborative projects, including the NIDILRR TBI Model Systems (TBIMS). He has authored several publications on neuroimaging, cognition, and psychosocial functioning in moderate-severe TBI, including multiple peer-reviewed articles within the TBIMS network.
