Dr. Braun is a physician/scientist with Ph.D. training in Kinesiology and clinical training in Rehabilitation Medicine (PM&R). She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Maryland, where her clinical and research focus is upon stroke rehabilitation. There she has forged strong working relationships across the Divisions of Stroke Neurology and Neurorehabilitation, the Institute for Genome Sciences, and the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences. Since 2018 she has been an active collaborator with the International Stroke Genetics Consortium (ISGC), defining novel phenotypes for use in genetic, genomic and transcriptomic studies of stroke recovery. These collaborations have a track record of success with work published in highly-regarded scientific journals including Neurology and Stroke. Her current research interests include defining novel phenotypes for genetic studies of stroke recovery, and examining the timing of shifts in immune cell transcriptional states post-stroke with the overarching goal of tailoring neurorehabilitation for each patient’s unique biological timeline of recovery.
