Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Stephen Bornheim moved with his family to France during his childhood. To pursue his career in physical therapy, he then moved to Liège Belgium. After earning his master’s degree in physical therapy and rehabilitation, he worked both as a physical therapist in the neurology and neurosurgery wards of the Liège University Hospital, as a PhD student and assistant researcher, and undertook his masters in sports physical therapy. He obtained his PhD in 2021 titled " Could transcranial direct current stimulation contribute to acute stroke rehabilitation?".
He currently still works at the Liège University hospital and lectures in neurorehabilitation at Liège University.
