Dr. Irwin Altman has worked in neurological rehabilitation since 1985 and has been with Learning Services since 2018 first as the Program Director for Southern California Program in Escondido. In 2019 he also became the Program Director of the Southern California Home and Community Program. In August 2022, he took on the role as the National Director of Outcomes for Collage Rehabilitation Partners.
His career began as a Neuropsychologist and then as an inpatient neurorehabilitation director. He brings extensive experience in working with people with acquired brain injuries in a variety of settings including inpatient acute neurorehabilitation units, residential centers, outpatient day treatment centers, and home and community settings.
His work has been published in such journals as Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Brain Research, Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences, The Clinical Neuropsychologist, International Journal of Clinical Neuropsychology, Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology, and Rehabilitation Psychology. In addition, he has presented at numerous national and local meetings including the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM), American Psychological Association (APA), Canadian Psychological Association, Federal Interagency Conference on Traumatic Brain Injury, International Neuropsychological Society, Mosby—Medical Case Management Convention (MCMC), and the North American Brain Injury Society (NABIS).
Dr. Altman has been a member of the Medical Psychology Section staff of the Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, where he served as the Vice Chairman of the section and later the Chairman. In addition, he has served as a Member of Sports Concussion Coalition of Arizona.
Dr. Altman graduated from the University of Victoria with a Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology in 1986. He obtained an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix in 1990.
