Janet Freburger, PT, PhD, FAPTA is a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh. She has over 20 years of experience as a health services researcher with expertise in observational and pragmatic study designs focused on access to, appropriate use of, and effectiveness of rehabilitation and other types of health care. More recently, Dr. Freburger has developed expertise in implementation science and the conduct of large pragmatic effectiveness-implementation trials through projects funded by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation. Dr. Freburger is currently University of Pittsburgh’s Principal Investigator for the Learning Health Systems Rehabilitation Research Network (LeaRRn), an NIH-funded resource center consisting of a partnership between the Brown University, Boston University, the University of Pittsburgh and 10 health systems. LeaRRN’s mission is to improve the quality, outcomes, and value of rehabilitation care by fostering stakeholder-partnered research within and across learning health systems. Dr. Freburger also serves as Co-Director of the Implementation to Maximize Population and Community Translation Core (or the IMPACT Core) in the University of Pittsburgh’s Clinical Translational Science Institute. The goals of this core are to provide investigators with dissemination and implementation science resources, services, and training. She received her PhD in Health Services Organizations and Research from Virginia Commonwealth University, her MS in Physical Therapy and Biomechanics from Virginia Commonwealth University, and her BS in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland.
