Karla is currently a full time Occupational Therapist on the Acquired Brain Injury unit at Shepherd
Center. While her primary focus of treatment is activity based therapy with ABI patients using a variety
of technology and modalities, she also assists with Vision Clinic for ABI patients at Shepherd Center,
working alongside an Optometrist and Vision OT. In addition, she assists with postural assessments,
prism use and adjustments, and vision exercises. Karla graduated from Medical University of South Carolina with a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Science in Occupational Therapy in 2012. She has since worked at Shepherd Center on the Acquired
Brain Injury unit. She has assisted in the implementation of the ABI’s Vision Program and has been an active participant on the Vision Committee. Additionally, she serves on the Rehab Technology Committee, Upper Extremity Committee, and Adolescent Committee. She has a wide array of skillsets from a variety of continuing education courses since 2012 and serves as an OT mentor for new OTs and rehab aides on the ABI unit.
