Mahya Beheshti, MD (she/her/hers)

I am Mahya Beheshti, MD, a Physician-Scientist at the Rehabilitation Department of NYU Langone Health. My research interests lie in neurorehabilitation and human-machine interfaces, with a particular focus on EEG-based pattern recognition and wearable technologies. I am passionate about developing machines that not only connect "to" human bodies but also learn to connect "with" human neural systems, tracking human intention through eye motions and neurophysiological biomarkers such as EEG and EMG.
Throughout my career, I have committed myself to designing and implementing experiments that advance both theoretical knowledge and clinical applications. My groundbreaking work on eye-hand coordination has provided foundational insights into cortical connectivity, significantly impacting the understanding and treatment of sensory-motor impairments. Looking forward, I aim to expand models of sensory-motor interaction and explore new paradigms in cortical dynamics, translating complex scientific findings into practical clinical applications to improve rehabilitation strategies and quality of life for individuals with neurological disorders.
Driven by intellectual curiosity and a passion for interdisciplinary research, I am also pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. This unique blend of expertise in medicine and engineering positions me at the forefront of scientific progress, dedicated to developing innovative solutions for those with challenging disabilities
