Doctor of Occupational Therapy
Emory & Henry School of Health Sciences
Sterling, Virginia, United States
Lucia recently graduated with her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Emory & Henry School of Health Sciences and received her undergraduate degree in Health Sciences from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018. She completed her Level II clinical rotations at a skilled nursing facility and at The George Washington University Outpatient Center where she worked with the orthopedic, amputee, and neurologic populations. She specifically has a special interest in the use of technology within rehabilitation and has seen how pivotal implementing a product in a patient's plan of care can be, from increasing wrist range of motion to improving cognitive functioning. Despite evidence consistently indicating technology's benefits, she found that there was a gap between the research and translating this into clinical practice. Lucia dedicated her doctoral capstone to overcoming barriers to technology adoption in clinical settings and reducing product abandonment. She has become passionate about bridging this gap between technology companies and clinicians. Lucia hopes to continue advocating for and facilitating the application of technology within healthcare for the mutual benefit of providers and improved patient outcomes.
