Inbal Eshel, MA, CCC-SLP is the Training and Implementation Lead for the Knowledge Translation Team under the R & D directorate of the Defense Health Agency, where she leads large-scale initiatives to integrate research and practice. Currently, she is leading an initiative aimed at optimizing readiness and targeting duty-limiting conditions by spreading and scaling Direct Access to Physical Therapy for NMSK injuries. Previously, she acted as Senior Principal Scientist at the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC), as a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Subject Matter Expert. She served as the project lead for the development of DVBIC’s Cognitive Rehabilitation for Service Members and Veterans following Mild-Moderate TBI: Clinical Recommendations in order to support implementation of state-of-the-science clinical care in the military health system (MHS) and VHA, and contributed to myriad clinical and research initiatives aimed at improving Service Member/Veteran Quality of Life. Ms. Eshel’s clinical career spans civilian and military medical settings, with a focus on neurogenic disorders in adolescents and adults. Previously, she served as lead TBI Speech-Language Pathologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where she played an integral role in developing the cognitive rehabilitation program while working with inpatient and outpatient Active Duty Service Members, Veterans, and their dependents. Ms. Eshel is a leader with a history of developing innovative evidence-based programs and resources to improve clinical practice and outcomes, both at the level of direct patient care as well as team, institution, and system-wide. Her impact on the field has been recognized through a number of achievement, clinical, and research awards; she is frequently invited to present at national conferences and chairs the Community Reintegration Task Force under the Military and Veterans Networking Group for the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine.
