Roxanne Disla completed her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy in May 2017 from Quinnipiac University and has over 18 years experience working as an Occupational Therapist. She was the Lead Occupational Therapist on the “VA Study to Optimize the DEKA Arm” and the “Home Study of an Advanced Arm Prosthesis”, from 2008- 2016. She is the PI of “Women with Amputation: The Unique Needs of an Underserved Population” which is a national exploratory needs assessment of the unique impact of amputation on women, including the physical, psychological, and social aspects. The participants, men and women living with amputations, were asked to complete a computer adaptive survey with questions addressing their physical health, quality of life, prosthetic use and needs, and psychological experiences. In collaboration with other VA sites, the DoD and the civilian population, we would like to build upon the study as well as other research efforts and develop a valid and clinically relevant assessment tool to measure physical and psychosocial outcomes for women living with limb loss and demonstrate its feasibility and clinical utility. Currently, she is working with upper limb loss patients at the James J Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx.
