Dr. Ifon is a Board-Certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. She currently works in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Service at the Central Virginia VA Health Care System, Richmond, VA. She is also an Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA. Dr. Ifon completed her Master of Science at the University of Maryland in the Adult-Gerontological Primary Care program in 2006 and obtained board certification as an Adult-Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner with the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Washington, DC. She obtained her Ph. D. in Nursing from the Catholic University of America, Washington DC, in 2016. Her research interest is in bone health, and in 2021, she was awarded a CDA-1 grant by the VA Office of Rehabilitation Research and Development to investigate the effects of electrical stimulation and vitamin D supplementation on bone health following spinal cord injury under the mentorship of Dr. Ashraf Gorgey, Director of Spinal Cord Injury Research at the Richmond VA Medical Center. Her study aims to mitigate bone fractures in persons with spinal cord injury, and ultimately to improve their quality of life. Dr. Ifon has served as a reviewer for Spinal Cord-Nature, the official journal of the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS), and she has published in a peer-reviewed journal.
