Abigail Mawhirter graduated with her BSN from PHSSN in 2014 and began working on the inpatient rehab unit of Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, TX, where she has stayed for 8 years. She fell in love with the area of rehab nursing and has since earned her CRRN, and she also serves as a charge nurse, clinical coach, assistant staff educator, co-chair of her facility's Magnet Committee, co-chair of the Unit Excellence Council for her unit, and a member of the hospital's Research Council and Nurse Leadership Council. She is a two-time DAISY Award winner, was named one of the BSW Central Texas Top 25 Nurses in 2018, and has been featured in a "Year of the Nurse" segment for the local news. Abigail has been a member of the Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) since 2018. She is acting President of the NETXARN chapter and serves on the ARN Engagement Council and ARN REACH 2023 Conference Planning Committee. She has presented at the REACH Conference in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. When she's not working, Abigail volunteers with the SPEAKHIRE organization, which pairs mentors nationwide with immigrant students who are looking to enter college and pursue professional careers. Abigail's also a founding member of her local Nurse Christian Fellowship group, and she strives to embody Christ in all she does--especially in her role as a nurse.
