As a researcher, my objective is to investigate the relationship between cognitive and mobility impairment among people with neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease, using Electroencephalography (EEG) and Virtual Reality (VR).
I am pursuing a PhD in Rehabilitation Science as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Kansas Medical Center. I also completed my Bachelor's degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics (First Class Honors - 4.60/5.00) at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria.
In terms of teaching and academic experience, I have worked as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Prosthetic and Orthotics at FUTO, where I assisted in research work, literature reviews, and laboratory work. I also conducted tutorial classes on core departmental courses for third and fourth-year students. In addition, I worked as a Senior Science Tutor at Oriade International Secondary School, where I taught senior classes 2 & 3 Biology and provided assessments and grades for practical sessions.
In terms of clinical experience, I worked as an Orthotist/Plaster Room Assistant during my National Youth Service Corps at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Anambra State, Nigeria. I also completed a Clinical Posting as a Prosthetist and Orthotist Assistant at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in Idi-Araba, Lagos State, Nigeria. I also assessed patients, took negative and casts, and fabricated Orthoses and Prostheses at the Human Motion Rehabilitation Centre in Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria.
I have published a referred journal article on the challenges faced by Nigerian parents with disabled children in caring for them. I have also presented my research work at various conferences, including the 3MT Competition at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the American Physical Therapist Association (APTA) Kansas 2023 Spring Conference.
I have received several awards and honors, including the Graduate Research Assistant position at the University of Kansas Medical Center, the Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science, and Athletic Training (PTRSAT) Diversity Scholarship, and the First Class Honors Award in Prosthetics and Orthotics. I was also the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics, the School of Health Technology, and the Faculty at FUTO.
