Dr. Shem has been treating people with spinal cord injury (SCI) since 1998 at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. She supervises the multidisciplinary Spasticity Clinic, Spina Bifida Clinic, Wound Clinic, and Tendon Release Clinic. For over 25 years, she has been involved in SCI related research projects which include SCI Model System of Care projects, Rehabilitation Services Administration-funded project on community-based mentoring, NIDRR-funded dysphagia study, Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation’s Quality of Life grant project to develop a seated Tai Chi program for individuals with SCI, the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation funded telemedicine program, and the DOD-funded tele-psychology study.
