Dr. Nia Wallace Ward graduated from Howard University in Washington, DC with a Bachelor of Science
degree and went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Temple University in Philadelphia,
PA, and currently works at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD in the International Center for
Spinal Cord Injury (ICSCI). Dr. Wallace Ward has been a part of the outpatient neurological rehabilitation
team at ICSCI since 2007 where her practices have focused on Activity Based Restorative Therapy and
Locomotor Training. In addition to role as a therapist, she serves as the Supervisor of Rehabilitation
Technicians and Support Staff and has recently taken on developing diversity, equity, and inclusion
efforts within the ICSCI department through her group the HOPE Coalition for Diversity. Her ongoing
work in the realm of EDI has led her to discover her passion for mentorship at both the clinical and pre-
professional levels. At the clinical level, Dr. Wallace Ward has aligned with the National Association of
Black Physical Therapists (NABPT) as the co-chair of the Each One Teach One Mentorship program. In
the pre-professional work, she is actively pursuing a mentorship program providing under resourced
high school age students with exposure to professions within the field of healthcare. Dr. Wallace Ward
works to excel in the area of Mentorship as she sees so many opportunities for the face of PT and
healthcare to better reflect the communities that they serve.
