Dr. Owens graduated from the University of Connecticut receiving a BS in Allied Health Sciences Program in Physical Therapy in 1993. He became NSCA - Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 1998, a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine – US in 2002. He completed an APTA and AAOMPT accredited Orthopedic Manual Therapy Fellowship and became an APTA Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist in 2006. Dr. Owens received his Doctorate of Science from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2008. He joined the faculty at the Hampton University Department of Physical Therapy August 2009. As part of his scholarly duties, he coordinates and teaches the Musculoskeletal Management, Research, Physical Agents, and Differential Diagnosis curriculum.
Dr. Owens has published many peer-review articles and presented his research at conferences in the area of orthopedic manual physical therapy, and diversity equity and inclusion in healthcare. He has offered continuing education instruction nationally for physical therapists in the area orthopedic manual physical therapy for 15 years.
