Lead Exercise Physiologist

Novalyn Cruz, M.S. has served as the lead Exercise Physiologist for the Cancer Rehabilitation, Wellness, Resilience and Survivorship at Cedars-Sinai since 2014. Novalyn’s experience during her undergraduate working at the Center of Achievement through adapted physical activity in California State University, Northridge has given her the passion to work with moderate to severe disabilities in land-based fitness programs. She has a strong interest in working specifically with the cancer population in helping individuals through physical rehabilitation during and post-treatment. She performs pre-assessments and post-assessments for cancer patients to determine appropriate course of exercises, demonstrating knowledge and competency to obtaining and monitoring accurate blood pressures, oxygen saturation, preparing medical doctors’ interpretation reports and appropriate prescription of exercise routines. She works with multidisciplinary group of staff members requiring flexibility and adaptability to follow established program goals and protocols. Novalyn Cruz has a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Wellness: Fitness and Performance. She is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine as an Exercise Physiologist, Cancer Exercise Trainer and Personal Trainer. She has competent skills including the ability to perform procedures on patients with diverse cultural backgrounds, identifies safety concerns in the age-related population and institutes measures to provide a safe environment. She has contributed to research studies working with metastatic prostate cancer through supervised exercise interventions, cardiopulmonary assessments and physical assessments.
