Research Associate
Shirley Ryan AbilityLab
I am a research associate with Dr. Miriam Rafferty in the Strength + Endurance Lab at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. I am, also, currently a PhD Candidate at the University of Virginia in the Department of Kinesiology. I am advised by Dr. Christopher Kuenze and a contributing member of the Exercise and Sport Injuries Lab (EASIL). My research experience has involved biomechanical and electrophysiological assessments during functional movements during my Master of Science, Doctor of Physical Therapy, and PhD programs. My research experiences during these times focused on the effects of simulated weight-gain and obesity, pregnancy, and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction on lower extremity biomechanics during activities of daily living, including walking and running, and return to sport assessments, including jumping, single-leg hopping, and walking. Additionally, during my academic and clinical experiences I gained knowledge of project management, data management, and collaborative practices. These previous research and clinical experiences have allowed me to transition to my current role as a research associate in people with Parkinson's disease and implementation science at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. My long-term goal is to leverage my clinical and research experiences to improve research translation, clinical care, and quality of life for individuals who experience physical therapy treatment as part of their healthcare.
