Denise Powers is a 5th-year doctoral candidate in the Counseling Psychology program at the University of Georgia and is completing her pre-doctoral training at the University of Florida’s Health Sciences Center on the Medical/Health Psychology track. A major focus for Denise has been increasing visibility and awareness of disability identity issues in psychology in clinical and classroom settings. Her research interests include counselors’ attitudes towards persons with disabilities and persons with disabilities’ interactions with psychologists in healthcare settings. Denise’s dissertation is a qualitative exploration of the psychotherapy experiences of people with disabilities. Her clinical training is heavily focused on serving patients across the lifespan in medical and healthcare settings as well as working as a member of integrated care teams.
