Research Objectives: To investigate the best available literature which validates alternative medicine techniques involving mechanical devices or techniques designed to improve health
Design: A survey of experts on alternative medicine was mailed to ask for suggested published literature that validates the utility of these alternative medical interventions.
Setting: Our group has published and distributed summaries of current medical literature each month for the last 20 years. We have published specialty journals including Stroke as well as Herbs and have distributed them to practice providers across the US and Globally.
Participants: We have contacted specialists in alternative medicine and asked for published literature that validates the efficacy of alternative techniques including acupuncture, acupressure, Yoga, Tain Chi, Laser, cupping and others. Our team will review the articles nominated by these experts and will summarize the 25 best of these and publish to distribute through our network
Interventions: We will use our national network to distribute to university-based academic programs throughout the US.
Main Outcome Measures: We will provide a CME exam to test the recipients on their understanding of the literature summarized in the journal.
Results: The test scores on the CME test demonstrate that the journal adds knowledge to the recipients.
Conclusions: This study demonstrates a lack of knowledge about alternative medicine techniques and the effect of the distribution of summaries of the best of the literature
